These projects were completed as part of an Introduction to Mechanical Engineering course and provided valuable hands-on experience in machining and manufacturing. Using shop drawings, I learned how to safely operate manual mills and lathes to produce precision parts. Engineering tolerances and GD&T were heavily emphasized throughout the course, while calipers, edge finders, and digital readouts were used to achieve the required dimensions and tolerances.

The slider consisted of a plastic base with T-shaped channels and an aluminum arm assembly. The plastic base was cut and then faced on the mill, including the machining of its T-shaped channel. The main part of the arm was made on a CNC mill.

The hammer consisted of an aluminum handle and head with threaded plastic tips. The tips were machined on a manual lathe, while the aluminum components were produced on a CNC lathe. The head and handle were joined using a drilled and tapped connection.

These projects, combined with classroom instruction, provided a strong foundation in CAD, machining, and engineering documentation. Through the manufacturing process, I developed a greater appreciation for precision, patience, and attention to detail when producing parts to specified tolerances. The projects also improved my understanding of how individual components are designed, manufactured, and assembled into larger systems. Most importantly, the experience gave me the confidence and technical skills necessary to pursue more advanced personal projects.
